Enhancing our Students' Social, Emotional, Psychological, Moral and Academic Development

November: Caring People

It is essential for adults to recognize and take seriously the issue of stress in our children's lives. Today's students worry about family issues, friends, academic performance, belonging, peer pressure, and much more. Adults need to model healthy ways of dealing with stress and create a support system where children can practice asking for help appropriately.

This month's theme is Caring People. Topics we will focus on this month are:

  • Creating a Support System
  • Asking for Help
  • Friendship
  • Appreciation

Some Tips to Enforce this Month's Theme

To create a safe community, it takes time and deliberate effort by everyone involved. There are three critical steps to teach and reinforce emotional and social learning. As a leader you need to:

  • Model desirable behavior
  • Use teachable moments in which you can demonstrate asking for help, appreciation, and other social/emotional skills.
  • Integrate teaching of social/emotional skills in your daily routine
