March: Getting Along with Others

Conflict is part of everyday life. Students need to understand how to recognize anger signals and how to deal with conflict in a non-violent way. In order to do that, they need to practice their their listening skills and develop the ability to negotiate or compromise when necessary.

For this month's theme: Getting Along with Others, topics we will focus on are:

  • Active Listening
  • Self-Control
  • Respectful Communication
  • Communication Skills
  • Conflict Resolution

Theme Objectives

  • Students will learn what conflict is and how it escalates.
  • Students will learn how to respond assertively in conflict situations.
  • Students will learn how to use their negotiating skills to resolve conflict peacefully.

Some Tips to Enforce this Month's Theme

Children deserve to learn health ways to respond to conflict. The following are some steps to help you support children in their efforts to get along:

  1. Give your students a few minutes of individual attention each day.
  2. Show them how to ask for attention in appropriate ways.
  3. Recognize each child every time they make a good choice.
  4. Give each student a chance to succeed.
